LOECC History
A meeting was held on May 5, 1967, to write the Bylaws and it was decided to call the golf course “The Lake of Egypt Country Club”. A Board of Directors was formed, and the course opened May 27, 1969.
The club used the maintenance building until the Clubhouse could be built. The swimming pool and Clubhouse were opened May 11, 1970. Membership dues were $100.00 per family and $75.00 for a single membership.
Bill Johnson was hired as the Golf Professional on February 16, 1970, and was followed by club manager Charlie Smith. In November, 1975, Ernie and B.J. Faulkner took over as Golf Professional and club managers until Ernie retired in November, 1999. Mark Faulkner was hired as the PGA Professional and Superintendent, and B.J. still runs the clubhouse.
Elsewhere on this website you can find photos of the course in its early years. A photo shot from behind five green toward seven green shows that there wasn’t a single tree between five and seven. There is also a photo of the old number one green. The new green was built in the fall of 1979.
The clubhouse has been through a few minor changes over the years, but the interior was completely remodeled in the spring of 2007. The dining room now overlooks the pool and number nine green. The swimming pool deck and fencing was reconstructed in 2003.
The club has grown to a full membership of 285, with a waiting list to join. As of this posting, family dues are $575, with single memberships at $500. Pool Only dues are available for $200, or $150 for a single pool membership.
