Membership Up Drastically for 2014

The Lake of Egypt Country Club must be doing something right. Membership for 2014 is up 35% from last year. A combination of factors has aided the Club in adding over 73 new members this year and that number still seems to be increasing every week. We are pleased and excited to have several new young members taking advantage of the new Junior Membership (age 35 and under), new members joining under the Senior Membership plan, and others taking advantage of the overall greatest bargain in Southern Illinois golf.

The Board of Directors has taken an aggressive approach in adding new members by offering alternative membership plans as well as adding new Club functions such as The Party at the Pool with live music provided by member Tom Murphy and The Wayback Machine. With the Club Championship and Match Play Championship, Club scrambles, Tony Stevens qualifiers, and Senior Guest Day events, there is something for everyone.

The Monday Morning Men's League and Thursday Men's League have seen increased numbers as have the open tournaments the Fowler Heating and Air Golf Championship, the Southern Trust Guys and Gals, the Jackson & Gray/I.M.S. Four Person Mixed Scramble and the Bennies Italian Restaurant Sink or Swim Four Lady Scramble.

The golf course itself was probably in the best shape of any course in Southern Illinois this year, with the perfect zoysia fairways and tees and great greens. We have to give most of the credit to the hard work of dedicated employees Jim Tabor and Ron Grant. These guys, with the help of good weather, have provided us with a course we can all be proud of. Last but not least, the Members of the Lake of Egypt Country Club have taken great pride in the Club and have shown that pride by bringing a record number of guests to experience their club. Many of these guests have become new members themselves.

2015 promises to be a great year for the Lake.

TWO MAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

The Two Man Team Championship is fast approaching October 11th and 12th. The format is the same as in the past: 18 holes Better Ball, 18 holes Alternate Shot, and 18 holes Scramble. We will play 27 holes each day. There will be pay-outs for each format as well as for the stroke total. There will also be an "alternate" purse to be played for.

If you would like to participate in this fun event, call the club to sign up soon. Tee times will begin at 9:00 Saturday and Sunday.

What a Party!

On August 23rd the Club hosted a dinner party AT THE POOL, with approximately 100 people coming out to enjoy the evening! There was good food, a great setting, and wonderful entertainment by the band The Wayback Machine! Earlier in the day, players in the Jackson & Gray/I.M.S. Four Person Mixed Scramble had finished their first round. They along with all Club members were invited to enjoy the festivities. It was a great night, and no Club party at the pool is complete until someone ends up in the pool. Well there were about 12 that cooled off in the beautiful cool water.

There is already talk of the next event. If you made it to this one, thanks for helping to make it a great success. If you missed it, we hope you are able join us for the next one. Special thanks to Tom Murphy and The Wayback Machine, BJ Faulkner and Jim Tabor for the delicious food, and Amanda Pauls for her help in planning the event. We would also like to thank L.C. and Jon with Jackson & Gray and I.M.S. for their generous sponsorship of the tournament, and Jill and Tasha for all their help. It wasn't one of Ernie's fish frys, but it was pretty cool.
